How to prepare for the (CET) Common Entrance Test for DAC
The online Common Entrance Test shall consist of objective type multiple choice questions on Computing Fundamentals, Fundamentals of programming, C Programming, Object Oriented Programming Concepts and Fundamentals of VB Programming. There will also be a section on Aptitude test as per GMAT pattern.

The CET will test the candidate's knowledge of the above topics. The candidate just possesses good knowledge of C Language in terms of the syntax and its appropriate use. The candidate should carefully study the books recommended herein. However, merely reading language constructs from the book cannot develop programming ability. It is absolutely necessary to actually write one's own code in C Language and implement at least 100 good C Programs on a computer. These programs should be of increasing complexity and should exploit appropriate constructs and advanced features of C. Candidates should solve all the problems given in the recommended books. This will help the candidates in not only mastering the language but also develop good problem solving ability, which is most critical for any successful career.

The applicant should also practice the use of good features of the language, modularize his/her code, put suitable comments to improve readability of the code, make extensive use of library routines and format the programs to express the logical flow clearly.

The candidate should note that the rigorous programming practice as prescribed above is not only required to succeed in the Common Entrance Test but is also required to learn various modules of DAC with rapid pace. The rigorous programming practice is in fact the most important prerequisite to undertake the DAC Course and possible successful career in the IT industry thereafter. The candidate may also contact the nearest DAC center for attending the PreDAC course at the center.

Evaluation Methodology
The evaluation process forms an important part of the course that leads to conferring the Diploma in Advanced Computing upon the eligible students.

The evaluation is a continuing process that goes on throughout the duration of the course. The evaluation will consist of three components:

1. Theory Exam
2. Laboratory Exam and
3. Ongoing Evaluation of Lab Assignments.

For theory test C-DAC, ACTS, Pune will conduct, control and monitor the exam that will be conducted twice during the course. First exam is called Centralized Mid Course Exam (CMCE) and second exam is called Centralized Course End exam (CCEE). CMCE will be conducted after the mid-term break and CCEE will be conducted before the Project.

The final result of the Diploma in Advanced Computing is usually declared within ten days of completion of the course .The scores of CMCE and CCEE shall appear on the Mark Sheet.

The weightage for each component will normally be :

 weightage Percentage
  Theory examination – (CMCE + CCEE)   50%
  Laboratory examination   40%
Internal marks (Lab Assignments, Surprise Tests, Viva, Seminars etc.)   10%

The question papers for the theory as well as the laboratory examinations at all the centres will be set by CDAC,ACTS Pune. The centres according to guidelines and model answers provided by C-DAC, ACTS Pune, will conduct the evaluation of the laboratory and assignments locally. The lab examination problems will also be provided by C-DAC,ACTS Pune.

The student will be awarded a grade based on his aggregate score of all modules according to the following scale :

Grade Percentage
A+ 80% and above
A 70 – 79.9 %
B+ 60 – 69.9 %
B 50 – 59.9 %

C 40 – 44.9%

A student who is absent for a CMCE/ CCEE or unable to successfully clear any module in CMCE or CCEE at the first attempt shall be allowed to appear for a re-examination according to the schedule. However, his/her score at the re-examination will be derated by 20%. Only one re-examination will be conducted.

A student will have to successfully complete and clear both theory & lab exams for receiving the Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Computing Certificate. Students unable to complete or fail in a module(s), then only “Performance Statement” will given. No student will be allowed to appear for any module/exam after completion of the course duration. Performance statements and certificates will be issued to all students by C-DAC,ACTS Pune within ten days of completing evaluation.

Placement Initiatives
Scope

The Information Technology industry is the fastest growing sector of the Indian economy and the need for trained manpower is growing. It is expected that the IT industry will need at least 6 lakh trained software professionals by the year 2008 and this number is likely to increase in the near future.

Excellent Track Record

ACTS has designed the DAC course keeping in view the current and future manpower needs of IT industry. The DAC course, is well regarded by recruiters in the IT industry as an assured source of well trained and high quality manpower. As a result, in the last several years we have placed thousands of our students in top ranking IT companies in India and abroad as well as in large number of start-up companies.

Placement Web Service

The student database along with the Query Engine is also available to the companies on C-DAC’s Website at http://acts.cdac.in This will enable companies across the globe to access the database and shortlist suitable candidates for placement in India and abroad.

Placement Cell

The Placement Cell at the respective centres actively coordinates the task of organizing the Campus Interviews for all the students. The centres only catalyze the process of bringing the companies to the campus and enable students to go through the Campus Recruitment Process. The selection is solely governed by the requirements and recruitment policies of the various companies visiting our centres for campus recruitment. While most of the companies insist on a graduate degree, the recruitment policies of some of the leading companies tend to prefer students with B.E. First Class.
